Thats why if you're selling a washing machine with a noisy bearing on the drum, you damage the buttons.

Then when you advertise it as spares for cheap people think they can fix the button and it'll be fine. When in fact there's ten more things which are more major that they don't need to tell you about because they've already said it's spares.

Likewise if a car has a short MOT and you know it needs brakes, and brakes are easy, you buy the car thinking you'll pass an MOT by doing brakes. Which may not be the case.
