Weird decision really.
Why have they done it now? Why not when they were relegated, or when they didn't win for a few games, why after they won last night?
Shame, he wasn't ever a very good manager, but was an honest and genuine guy

1 point off the top
citing poor home performance and attendance, seems a very strange time tbh

Because you shouldn't believe everything that the media tells you.
Regardless of our shit league position we are playing teams off the park, it's f-ing ridiculous.

It's hilarious that none paying fans have contributed to southgates downfall when boro are in a great position, weak weak weak chairman.

Newcastle are struggling as our West Brom now, this is what happens in the Championship, teams start off on fire, 6 weeks into the season and they are struggling to find form.
4 or 5 wins on the bounce and you're at the top.

something like 10 teams within 3 points of the top, it's a hell of a league to get back out of

Looks like there's a manager waiting in the wings to take over that the chairman obviously fancies. Probably Strachan by the sounds of things, he'd do a good job with them.

Funny time to sack him, I'm surprised it has taken this long though as for the past two seasons in the PL they were shocking. Also I can't see how sacking him because of falling attendances will do anything, I think the chairman was just saying that.

He should have gone ages ago in my opinion. They have been getting worse for ages now.
I think the generally poor standard of the Championship this year has flattered Middlesborough in the position they are in.
Middlesborough only have promotion on their mind. The way Southgate has had them playing it's definately not a certainty. All it needs is a few teams around them to up their game and they'll be left behind. With the team they have they should be better than they are.

Was just going to post similar to this. He's always been one of the most supportive chairmen. I guess that makes the decision a little stranger.

Football is terrible, position is flattering, team are underperforming and Southgate is(was) terrible in the transfer market. we maybe joint 2nd but there are only 4 points from 1st to 8th place in the championship.

Think his patience must be wearing thin, your right it's not like him at all. Usually Southgate would have got till the end of the season. I think Gibson can't afford to keep the club unless we gain promotion. His business he owns is struggling and he may have to sell the club to retain finandial stability. He wrote off huge debts from the club through his company.

Looks as if Strachan has agreed to take over in principle.
