Ive been reading about flashing the Wii, anyone know how this is done and whats needed?

Zelda: Twilight princess.
That USED to be needed, iirc, it doesn't any more, you need an SD card as well.
Then download some homebrew software, and it manipulates something in the Zelda save game to open the Wii somehow... i'll looks for the wiki link, gimme a sec

I think you have to be wary of installing WII updates with a Chip? I.e some chips require a bypass switch to disable it.
I have homebrew installed but havent got any further to playing backed up ISOs.
anyone know what to do?

No need for a chip, bannerbomb, usb loader and a usb drive (my 500gb one was £50 last year) and just put the games on that, job done dont even pay for dvd's
