Ideally 42" and flat

Thats where my requirements and knowlege ends

Anyone shed some light on places to shop? Prices?

What the hell is HDMI? is 1080p worth the extra?

LED is way out of my price range.

Plasma or LCD?

Cheers

Have you got a Blu Ray Player?

If so, then 1080 will be the best option, as its "Full HD"

Do you play any games on your TV?
If So, then go for an LCD, to prevent screen burning.

I got a 42" LG 1080p last christmas for my mum and dad, and it was just over £500.

You can get some pretty good deals now.

We have a 42" 1080p plasma Panasonic one, as it was the best in some magazine review or the gadget show can't remember.

I know it's 40" but i don't think you can go wrong with a Samsung

http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/review/2009/08/18/Samsung-LE40B550---40in-LCD-TV/p1

As for burning on plasma's, my mates is still going strong and it's nearly 2 years old and he plays xbox/playstation on it so unsure how true the burning image is. He has a 50" Samsung plasma and games are fucking sweet on it

But sound on the samsungs have always been quite bad, so i would suggest getting a sound system if you are wanting good sound as well

Have a look at the P42S10 Panasonics, bit below the ones mentioned above but excellent TVs none the less. May cost you an extra £50 or so though over £600.
