Its £85 to put it onto another car.. If you want to sell it you just transfer it to the buyer car (£85) or put it on retention with no nominee.
Its actually Illegal to sell the car while the transfer is taking place (it takes 2-4 weeks) I always do it, just got to make sure you write up some decent paper work to make sure you are not liable for speeding tickets etc.

Fill out a V778 and send it off with a cheque for £105, your MOT, reg doc (except the green bit) and a photo copy of your tax disc.

Yep, you still have to transfer the plate (thats the 80 odd quid bit) but you then pay an extra admin charge of £25 quid to hold the plate in a state of limbo then in the future when you want to put it onto another car you dont pay a penny.

You never own a number plate, you just have the right to use it as an nominee.

i see. bit of a rip off realy!
so £80 to tranfer to another car, or an extra £25 to hold the rights to it?
are there any companies that will buy it, for a decent price, aka what its valued at?

Its an expensive business.
Try NewReg they might buy it.. Failing that whack it on retention and stick it on ebay in the new year.
