I'm currently taking accountancy in college.
Many people talk of how boring etc it is but I quite enjoy the logic etc
its only a couple of days a week but it suits my shifts at work are normally 2-10ish
just wondering how you got about finding work afterwards?
as I want to go the whole way and do technician
apprenticeship?

Fortunately I saw my job advertised in the local paper. They wanted to employ someone with no experience and train them up so I was lucky in that respect although i had a bit of knowledge as i was at college full time doing it but was only there 3 months or so

I'm more in the book keeping side of it all as i work in Accounts Receivable.
Got my job by making a good impression when i came here for my work experience when i was in school. I'm currently studying ACCA which they're paying for. Only just started that though as had to wait until i was 21.
Don't mind my job to be honest, prefer the account reconciliations as i like solving problems.

I was an Accountant for two years after graduating. Did my ACCA up to Advanced tax then sacked it off as I just didnt like the culture of the industry.
I think its ok for some people as the money more than compensates the job.
Good thing to come out of it is I do some freelance work for mates and old practices I used to work for.
My advice would be to go in at a technician level as you learn a lot more and candidates who work their way up the ranks are more desireable than graduates.
Would I do it again? Nah just take a look at Robbo

I'd be sick of solving problems especially if I had owned a golf that began life in a lake....

I think it depends who you are working with as well. If the guys here your boring, stereotypically accountants then i'm not sure I would still be here. We've been singing jizz in my pants all morning.

Agree with Tom, the peeps I work with are good to have a laugh with etc and as long as we don't get behind on our work it's cool to chat etc.

Im a part qualified accountant from doing my degree, and I currently work in Accounts Payable for a company called Cargill, mainly using JDEdwards accounting package, its a right pile of shit
At the minute im doing international transactions mainly to Deutschbank (Germany) and Isabel (Belgium), ranging from 5 payments in a file around €100k up to 200 payments, with the largest amount ive seen being around €12m
And yea, you dont even need A Level maths anymore, calculators are one of the greatest inventions ever
