Ive got an old Fujitsu Siemens E Series Lifebook with windows 2000 profesional installed(20gb H/D Pention 3). As the newest versions of AVG/Zonealarm etc dont support this operating system I was wondering if I could buy a newer version of windows?

I'm not interested in spending much as it only gets used every now and again so not bothered about the latest Windows 7/ Vista etc.

I'm no expert n not sure what versions are inbetween or if you can even buy them?

Thanks

You would struggle with anything above XP to be honest.

Do you need Windows? You could maybe use Ubuntu linux instead, has much lower demands than Windows and does things better anyway (plus you can run Windows applications using WINE or VirtualBox if you must).

What and how does it do better?

XP would be the best bet for windows, that's a bit long in the tooth now as well though.

You would be best off getting XP. Loads of people still have it so it is supported by everything I've come across.

If it's only AVG and Zonealarm you're worried about then try Avast - it's free and supports back to Windows 95. http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

It's not a resource hog, it's free, it can run on low spec systems comfortably.
