It's proving that to the police though. Quite a tricky situation. As said, phone back and give him one more chance before taking further action.

There's plenty of so called 'reputable' garages that have pulled this scam. There was one in Adlington near Chorley called Suttons and they sold sports and prestige motors. My mate bought a mint concourse spec Escort RS tubby from there, 3weeks later went walkabout and car was found at the back of there place half stripped. Turns out they were selling motors, waiting a few weeks then taking the motor back with the spare key then stripping them and selling the bits.

I'd go back to the garage with your dad and confront the salesman but do it in the showroom with a few witnesses. If he still aint playing ball go to the press, a bit of bad publicity will soon ruin him lol

I'd be phoning the previous owner and thanking him, prehaps a card or with a tenner gift voucher or something like that, he's gone out his way to help you.

Garage sound like a bunch of cowboys.

Why would they give the PREVIOUS owner the spare key? No matter what story he tells them that he'll send it on to you - thats just stupid.

Good you got the key in the end.

Yeah agreed the previous owner seemed to be an o.a.p by the sound of his frail voice.I'm very happy there are genuine people out there that would do that.I'm getting him a card and a thankyou gift for doing it.as for the garage, well they can just "F**K OFF

It's nice to know there are still some decent people out there.
