How hard is it to be nice to the guy, no need for your harshness tbh
Depends what your budget is tbh
For starters de-restricting the airbox is a good start, remove some pipes from the inside of the box, drill some holes in the bottom and add a decent panel filter.
I would stay clear of open cone filters on these engines, but the usual 4 branch manifold and exhaust system helps out.
Pending on your budget the standard inlet manifolds are very restrictive, for a few hundred quid you can buy a mantzel inlet or a lexmaul, if your budget isnt that much then im sure there are some custom made inlets you can buy in classifieds or on ebay

De-Restrict Airbox
Get X16XE Lower Inlet Manifold (if yours is a C16 engine) then attach a power box.
4 Branch Manifold then cat back system + decat if you like.
If you want to go further:
Fast Road Cams
ARP Rod bolts then get rev limit raised to 7500rpm (this really compliments the power box and cams)
Will poss see 140bhp on all of the above.

Upper inlet is the best gain per £ mod on the 1.6's.

The best and most noticable modification you can do to the X16XE/C16XE is a different upper inlet.
THis relocates the standard throttle boddies and de-restricts the 'Tuned down' Lotus engine!
Can get an Ebay Copy for reasonably cheap. and if you have a good mechanical mind its not a hard job to do!

this seems to be a very popular topic huh ! wel mate im in the process of tuneing my x16xe (corsa sport ) what iv done so far is i have fitted a janspeed 4-2-1 exhaust manifold , was a simple job and imo it made 4th gear all the better , i them proceeded to fit a decat and a mantzel inlet manifold which hopefully will put me up near 130bhp , very tuneable engine for little cost as u can source parts second hand!
