What camera is the best to go for circa 450 - was looking at the Lumix G1

I got a Lumix G1 a couple of months ago and have been very impressed with it. It was purely because of the size that I got it over a traditional DSLR.

Difficult one to recommend.
If you want the best pictures and don't mind the bulk of a DSLR over a point and shoot, then a Canon 450D would be ideal.
If you're taking it to America though, and just want something that 'works' for snaps, I wouldn't really recommend a dslr. I'd pay £150 for a decent compact instead, then you won't be so bothered if it breaks/get sat on/get left somewhere.
