I know what you mean gareth my gf's GLS had the same thing where the rear drums stuck on and to get them off I had to rock the car and jump o the alloy spokes, bu this is different, her brake pedal is solid and when the brakes are pressed they acually stick on with the rear lights staying on too

Brake fluid freezing?]
When freezing things expand hence solid pedal?
My astra did it, i drove to the end of the road to put some heat through the system and they'd free'd up after 200 yards

you got the bus!
Go boil up the kettle and pour it over your brakes next time.

Brake fluid won't freeze until about -40degrees.
If the lights are staying on I'd have said it's something to do with the pedal since that's where the switch is. As in the pedal itself might be sticking.

sounds to me like the diaphragm in the servo is knackered so it is assisting the pedal being pushed even tho you are not pushing the pedal. or maybe the one way valve in the servo vacuum pipe??

Would that make the brake pedal absolutly solid? and the brakes stay on?

Without seeing it only thing I'd be able to suggest would be a bit of wd40.

well.. the pedal is spring loaded so in theory it would return to rest regardless... but if there is some way that the vacuum is not on both sides of the diaphragm and is just pulling it could well be pulling the pedal too which would cause the brake lights to be on too once the pedal is down enough to clear the switch. I would try disconnecting the vacuum feed from the servo and see what happens... obv you would need to block the pipe off to the engine or it would be sucking fresh air in to the inlet manifold post- AFM so would run weak (if at all) - but it would eliminate the servo being the fault as the brakes would be un-assisted.
