Basically i need some advice i want to go on xbox live however my router is downstairs and laptop is 90% down stairs too. I thought about getting the microsoft wireless adapator but my friend said its not that good compared to using an ethernet cable to the router anyone got any experiances with using both set ups at all? thanks

if u can run an ethernet cable i would as this is what i started with,, on the other hand it is very annoying so i ended up buying a wireless adaptor, not much of a noticable difference to b honest unless there are lots of other things connected through wireless 2 the router i.e. laptops
just my experience tho

Ethernet cable all the way, I got about 30 m's for £15.00 of ebay. Runs out the wall downstairs over the extension to the back of my house and back through the wall. Did take some time to make it tidy etc though.

Few people prefer the ethernet cable. I've got the N Adaptor and the signal has dropped out a couple of times.

Cable without a doubt. Don't make a rush job of feeding the cable around your house as it will annoy you, take your time, pin back the wires and do a good job.

As the laptop is portable leave it next to the xbox and run a cable from there to the back of the laptop. Shorter and easier, for the time being at least.
