Yes it is, he put all the work into the corsa which funded the purchase of the vectra.
We used all our savings to buy the house and do it up.
George (jungle) has been self employed with has dad since leaving school, but seeing as his dad had a heart attack at end of last year he can no longer work, George has to now do it on his own.
The contacts and work is there, the tools, knowledge and skills are there, but there is not a spare penny for a van! We did not bank on his dads ill health.
Any equity we do have is tied up in other things that we can't touch. Certainly not selling the house, and I need the vectra for my travelling. I use it 80% of the time and won't even consider taking something cheaper and less reliable.
It is going to need to be a case of buying a shitter of a van, but now that he has passed his test there are none up here for sale anymore, typical!
People are wanting funny money for astra vans with 150k on them!! Its scandalous.
He knows I am not keen on taking ticky from the Bank.

i had a bit of savings and was going down the bank loan route then just thought, what the hell sold one of my cars, and started up the business using all my own money. Its such a relief knowing that you only have to make rent and bills each month ( i know you wont be renting a premesis) rather than having the bank looming over you eating away your profits. if you can hang on and save it will be better in the long run, no interest to pay on loans, but if you need it now then not really alot of choice

What I meant by my comment is, if you sold the vectra to buy a van... It's not a 'super unique' one of a kind car, that you'll never find for sale again.
You could sell it.
Buy a van... make money
then buy another vectra exactly the same (probably cheaper) in a year or so's time.
That was what I meant.

on the other hand if its just you and the wife then get the back seats ripped out and the back windows painted and a bit of OSB stuck behind the two front seats. its half your car so you take the back of it lol.

Near enough set up from savings and inheritance. Parents loaned me 1/3 of the money for the van which I have been paying back as if it was a loan (with interest etc too). All paid off now.
Certainly pays to have as much as you can behind you before venturing solo

van thats been traded in for a car he traded it in because he cant work anymore and could'nt afford to just give me the van and i had;nt passed my test then so could'nt buy it and have it sitting there doing fook all

Then why look at them, there are plenty of vans for under £500, Escorts, Caddys, Combos, not the nicest of vans but to get up and running beggers cant be choosers

can get escort vans with with 6 months tax and full mot for about £700 if you look hard enough. astra vans for about a grand.
If you want this to work then you will have to make a sacrifice. If i was you id sell the vectra, get your mrs a 306 turbo denzel or something along those lines and sort out the business.
Business is more important than a flashy car, if i had the opportunity to start up and earn money but had to sell a car to buy a shitter then so be it...

tbf he wont get massive money for the vec so no point selling it imo, buy a vec b estate and tint the windows, get a good un for 500 easily

Your just not looking properly or willing to travel, I've had mine for just on a month now and its fine, Combo on a V reg, 100k miles, 7 months MOT and 3 months Tax, 4 good tyres, good condition outside as vans of that age go, its a bit tatty inside but nothing that cant be sorted over time, Corsa parts are cheap as anything so going to be putting new seats etc in it as and when. Paid £500 for it on eBay.

Yeah it seems your not trying very hard to get this up & running if the only thing thats holding you back is a van!!?
If its an established business with the contacts & work already there then this is too good an oppertunity to not take on.
Ive seen your house progress thread & aall the work you done yourself & the speed at which you completed it & you'll be mad not to get back working simply over a lack of a van.
So either,
Sell the Vec (not sure what its worth, but) get a cheap car & a van with the proceeds.
Get a personal loan for a grand, or your mrs get it (in this together etc) & with that get a van & insurance.
Or take some jobs on & rent something cheap or use the car to get you off your feet.
Just dont do nothing because youve no wheels!!

I bought my astra van 3 years ago for a few hundred quid and i love it
I dont do a a great deal for miles as i only use it for fishing/camping etc but its been the most reliable car iv owned. Its so easy to work on and parts cost nothing. The only thing i had to replace was the breaks when i got it (£30 for disks and pads) and on one of the MOTs it needed a tyre, so went up the scrappy and got a unused spare out a vectra for £8.
Another good option is the escort vans, They dont drive as well as the astra but these are even cheaper.
