Right, some cars crack, some dont.
Anyone know what causes it, how to stop it, what speeds it up etc?
Heard a lot of people talking about strut braces, but id have thought it'd put more strain on the chassis, because it makes it more rigid.
Also ive seen 1.0's with 50k with the pillars cracked, but also early 1.2's with more milage with no cracks

it is a fairly common problem but only ever seen it on the older cars ie L reg, its nothing at all to do with suspension or wheels etc, mine had them when I got it, and that car was as standard as the day it left the factory, it was owned by a church group in cornwall, I was told by Vaux that it was put down to repeated opening and closing of the doors, so I guess that also is reflected in most high mileage problems, they did apparantly repair them under warranty but only if the car was under 6 years of age and had a full service history, this is just what I was told by the local dealers.
I would drill a small hole at the end of the cracks, and then weld it from the inside and maybe look at spot welding a piece of metal over the top of that pillar inside to help prevent movement in the future.

are these cracks visible from insude the door shut? or will the door card have to be removed? (obviously it will depend on how long the crack is, but do they generally start from the door shut? or will it be hidden until its big enough to spread from behind door card to door shut???)

So no-one knows for definate then, i.e has seen lots of cars with the problem, and has seen a pattern in the usage of the car.
The cracks are visible form outside of the car. They run along the groove that follows the bottom of the side windows, and runs into the door shut.
Cheers for the help so far

The cracks in the B pillars are an MOT fail so you need to get them sorted

Same happened to mine and 2 of my mates and they were 1999 / 2000 models. Sell it and buy Japanese is my advise.

My cars had the cracks for 4 years...........passed every MOT (3 at vauxhall) since.
I'm not too worried. Mines a 120k 1.2 LS and the cracks havent got bigger or anything.

u cant 'avoid' it happening. But as said it happens due to the flexing of the chassis

Apparently repeated closing of the doors makes it worse, especially if they r slammed
