My speedo was well out top end But it didn't really affect it at lower speeds.
195/45/15 will be fine.

sorry it looked like i was stero-typing ALL haldford staff but the service you'd get from the halfords around me (and i've been to many) 70% of the time you are given shite advise.... you'd expect like most cars places that the majority or all staff are knowledgable of the automotive industry and to be honest------halfords are'nt
Many times i have asked a few simple questions which you'd expected one to know and the reply i get is " i ask some1 for ya" which is ok but then that person comes along and talks bullshite like the one in this post.
Yesh... i get ya point that really i cant stereotype all the staff there....but they are just totally crap with their advise and service!!!!!
- I apologise to the small, small, small amount of people who do work at halfords that know their stuff..... you are a endangered species within the company

Yes that advice is dodgy. A change from standard steels to 15" alloys is a negligable amount. At 30, you are probably reading 30.1 . Its only after 70mph that the changes increase exponentially. It may read 75, when your actually doing 76. When you put 17's and upwards onto the car, then things get bad as far as speedo accuracy. Also, i believe that if you want to keep some comfort whilst driving, a 50 profile tyre is best.

I was impressed with one halfords staff member. Went to get some black anodised bolts for my new seats, and she came to help. Thought oh she's gonna be a great lot of good -- asked what seats they were -- sparco ok you need these blah blah blah and when they didn't have enough in stock she told me exactly where else to go... also knew the right answer to my other purchase with some bonding stuff
Hooray for halfords girl in hemel hempstead

Don't get any other offset that 45-49 or they will catch, especially on 50 profile.
Try to get 45's cause they look better. 50's are a bit tractor like.

On my old Corsa, I had 6.5x15" alloys which were ET42, the rear wheels scrubbed on the arches a bit with 195/50/15 tyres (lowered 35mm), but with 195/45/15 tyres they were absolutely fine, even with 3 people in the back!
If you are getting wheels with an offset of ET45-49, I would stick with 50s, otherwise get 45s.

I got 15" OZ et 38, tyre size 195-45-15.
Just need complete new set of tyres as worn them down, but they fit fine, dont even get close to rubbing, not lowered yet, but have 4 in the back the other week, big fat lads too, didnt catch then either!
et38, fit mine fine!

It's just the sidewall of the tyre that catches the arch lips, 45s are a good size because they have flat sidewalls, unlike 50s which don't.

my old 16's 195 45 16 read the same speed as my dads a4 at 65. 45 profile 15s will over read more if anything as they are smaller than the standard wheels.

You fanny, its cause its not lowered that they don't rub. They don't fit fine, they are the wrong offset. Repeat after me....w r o n g o f f s e t.
