for personal use

-do you need 2 guns? 1 for paint and 1 for clear coat?
-what size compressor is big enough to do a corsa shell?
-any other parts I need?

what about safety? are there any ways to ventilate a brick garage?

cheers

would of thought one gun would be ok just wash it out before you put clear coat in. could be rong tho i know bugger all about spraying lol,

as for ventilation you can get ventilation bricks that are standard house brick size or bigger depending on what its built out of, and an extractor fan, i used an old radiator fan in mine connected to a 12v transformer plug and cut hole out of wall

Compressor for a shell, 100ltr might do it, id go for a 200 though if i were you. Use 2 guns yeah, just easier that way, then you know you have one for paint and one for laquer.

Fuck knows about ventilating garage, but id get a water trap for the compressor too.

How big is your budget?

i want to do some bits on my car but dont earn much money, so was looking at ebay ones for £115 with a hose and spray gun, as thats all i can afford.

From what ive read on here its more the CFM that you need to look at

cheers people, i'll look at the costs of 100ltr vs 200.

what's a water trap and what's a CFM?

my budget, well, i'll be buying the parts bit by bit until I have the full set up ready to do my car. I'm not bothered about it looking the best paint job in the world, but as long as it's a good one, that's all that counts

CFM is an imperial measurement of volumetric flow, the metric equivalent would be l/s or m^3/s (that's litres/second and meters cubed per second). The only difference between the two metric ones is l/s = m^3/s x 1000.

CFM
•CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) is the imperial method of describing the volume flow rate of compressed air. It must be defined further to take account of pressure, temperature and relative humidity

-do you need 2 guns? 1 for paint and 1 for clear coat?

NO i have always painted and cleared with same gun with 1.4 tip.
I do have 2 guns, 1 for primer (1.8 tip) and 1 for paint/clear BUT jobs can be done with 1 gun

-what size compressor is big enough to do a corsa shell?
You need a good size really, as you need to hold a good amount of pressure for the whole time, but people paint at differant pressures. I paint at 30psi.
150lt would be best in my eyes, but could do it with a smaller BUT could take some time to make sure pressure at the gun is always there.

-any other parts I need?
In line water traps
Pannel wipe
Tack cloths
mixing cuts
Ultra Clean area
Some way of removing the paint in the air
Half an idea how to mix and apply the paint as each one is differant (2pack, water base etc)
Mask
LOADs of little things, but list above is a good start

My advice would be find a local paint shop and ask can you sweep up for a few weekends, an watch them paint, prep etc
I went to collage for 4 years to learn

summer time is perfect then

I've heard after you do paint, don't buff it up for 1 month if you don't have heaters to dry the paint.

i have only got one spray gun and i use that for painting colour and then i run thinners though it after and use the gun for clear,at the moment i use rattle can primmer but im buying a nother gun soon for primer, but yeah i just run paint thinners through the gun after changing from paint to clear and also after ive finishd and i also wipe inside and out side of the gun after to get rid of the exxes thinners,
and if im painting a small object like petrol flap i leave it indoors for about a week to fully dry a nd cure

u dont need 2 guns for painting anyway, its just you can buy base and clear guns if u want to be fussy and get "perfect" finishes on both..waste of time unless you want to go pro
