Morning All,

I have a new light to put up but the old one has confused me

This is the current one:

And this is what needs to go up:

From what I can gather i only need the live and the neutral.
Does this mean I only need the blue and the brown wires and not the green one anymore?

If someone could tell me what goes where on the new light it would be much appreciated! I gather blue = neutral and brown = live but I'm confused by the earth? and I take it I dont need the red one as this wasn't used in the old one.

Thanks,
Fro

Is the new light plastic? This could be why there is no earth terminal. If not it will need to be connected to some part of the metal of the new light.

Id say L to where the browns went, and N to where the Blues went. Leave the reds in the terminal block, they'll prolly be the live from the last light, and the supply down to the switch.

All of that casing on the new one is plastic which then fixes to that metal bit surrounding it. So I should be alright to leave the earth?

Thanks for your help mate!

Is there not a screw on the metal bit for the earth? It will "work" with out the earth yes. The earth is there as a safety. If the Live touches the metal, then that metal would become "live" +230V, and you could touch it. If you have the earth connected and the Live touches the metal, then there will be a path of negligable resistance and infinate current will flow, poping the Circuit Protection device (MCB Fuse). Plastic is non conductor so needs no earth.

Nope, nothing to attach an earth to. all of the wires are contained within the plastic bit and they have those plastic connectors on aswell, so I wouldn't have though they could touch anything.

Should be good with out the earth then. Just tuck it up out of the way.

I've wired up the live and the neutral how the other one was but it won't turn on, any ideas?

Would I need to use the red one at all?
