As of late my engine is running rougher than usual. Seems to be revving like ive put pressure on the accelerator when my foot isnt on it. Sometimes it chokes under acceleration and at times i can smell petrol although i cant find any leaks.
It can be rough on startup aswel and a few times it wont start unless i hold my foot rite down on the accelerator then turn the key.
Any ideas?
Any help would be great.

Sounds like the EGR but the EML normally comes on though in my car and it runs like a bag of crap!
check for air leaks in the induction system but apart from that, the only thing I can think is the EGR or it might even be the CTS (coolant temp sensor) that can cause problems, although I've never experienced it before.

Get a can of WD40, turn the engine on and spray it all over the inlet \ throttle body area. If the revs rise, you have an air leak.
RE the fuel, it could be over fuelling, check the wiring to your CTS sensor for breaks at the plug and\or replace the CTS, it's only £10.

definitely check for air leaks, mine was doing something similar after i had been working on the engine - turned out i had disturbed the rubber donut on the intake so it was pulling in un-metered air.
