Probably because it wasnt ran in properly and had its head kicked in from the first turn of the key
even ran in "properly" that fault could have still occured.

True. I bougt a 160k mile XE about 9 years ago after I bunged a rod through my old XE. OK, it wasn't as fast as the previous one but I still managed to snap driveshafts and engine mounts.
I have given 2 C20XE's away for free as I wanted them out of my garage.
A crap 2.0 8v doesn't strike me as a bargain when the dearest part of the conversion is the 'extras'.
EDIT: P.S. @ some guy with 'redtop' in his username not liking XE's. Read as - 'So skint he has to settle for an over-priced crap 8v lump!'

I did that once, woodruff key sheared and bent all the valves. (On the test run). Very annoying.

would def be worth getting it upto 130bhp mate if its not too expensive, my friend had the 115bhp engine in his nova and to be fair it was bit pants for all the time and effort!! in the end he got 130bhp + and it went well!!
