anyone got any tips for cleaning out the sludge and grime out of the header tank it is currently off the car and have already flushed boiling water throught and bleech. its flushed a little bit out but doesnt seem to be getting any cleaner now.

Steredent tablets, they are used for cleaning false teeth.
I use them for cleaning out my thermos flask, fill it up with hot water, drop a tablet or 2 in and leave overnight.
