few weeks back i had a slight knock where i clipped the back of someones car, guy was adament he wanted to go through the insurance (must have thought i wasn't insured) anyway what im wondering is, as there was no damage to my vehicle, do i still have to pay my excess for the claim the other guy has put in? So at the whole situation!

If the bill for his car is higher than your excess, you have to contribute that to it. Do you have figures?

If it's less then ideally you want to just pay his insurer direct and not involve your own.

If it's slightly more then it may still be worth covering it all so your own company do not deal.

I spoke to my insurers earlier, who have sent the forms out to me.

Can i just ring his insurance directly and say ill cover the cost? will they then drop the claim?

you only pay the excess for the claim for your own repairs in the event of a fault claim. you dont have to contribute towards his repairs no.
if you speak to your own insurer and make it clear you dont want to claim and will cover the cost, they will send you a bill when they receive it from his insurer, you will have to make an effort to keep chasing it otherwise it'll fall into a backlog and then get paid to clear on review.
