Check the voltage in the battery with the engine off and with the engine running. When the engine's running it should be about 14 volts, around 12 when off.

Alternator deffo, they are dodgy as fuck, the scuttle fills with leaves and gets blocked, so the water fills the scuttle up and it drips on to the alternator, fucking it up
and good luck doing a 600 mile round trip in a 1.2
