M&S for me too. Got a really nice one a couple of years ago for about £175ish.
Most of the time I wear a cheap crappy Tescos suit for work though. Half the time I go out to site to meet a client to do a building/land survey I end up climbing through brambles and bushes ripping the trousers to shreds.
Currently go to work in a pair of £9 suit trousers

At first I thought it said "sluts" but then I re-read and it said suits.
I was going to say I absolutely love them, but now I'll just say they're okay.

I tend to wear M&S Autograph suits - got 4 and they all have a different cut/style.
Latest one was a guest designer for M&S. Think it was £275 iirc.

Decided not to fork out the £200 on the England suit and got a nice pin stripe number from M&S.

M&S suits are great.
2 button and slim fit are my usual requirements.

If its for work then go for something a bit tasty/fashionable. As you mentioned grey is cool, i have one that is grey with very thin purple pin stripes, the cool thing is depending on the tie you wear (if any) it changes the pin stripe colour, either blue or purple.
I think the most important thing with suits, is the fit. You want it to look and feel sort on the arm when not wearing a shirt so the cuffs show when wearing a shirt. As for trouser length its important it doesn't collect or bulge near the shoe, and that when standing straight the trouser falls straight and doesn't continue over the heel.
I Hope that makes some kind of sense, its hard to describe without showing someone. I only know this as my mate sells and tailors suits, and is hoping to open a saville row type shop locally.

It's all about the liner. I've got a pierre cardin suit with a two tone ruby red liner - the detail on the liner is paisley stitching.

I got an Italian M&S one last year. Can't remember if that's the right name for the range though. Probs too big for me now anyway
