Basically my laptop is stupidly slow.

Because:
When i type it gets behind itself and takes a while to catch up.
Videos will not play properly. The audio is fine but the actual video is either frozen or jumps and skips.
The internet takes forever to load a page but works quicker when i move the mouse.
Programs take forever to open.
The scroll on the mouse pad takes forever to move the page then it jumps all in one go.

What can i do about it?

Ive cleaned off all the files i dont use or need.
Ive removed all the programs i dont use.
Ive compressed all the remaining files.
Ive ran adware, spyware and virus checkers and theres nothing.
Ive deleted all my internet files.

Is my laptop just getting old or do i need to do something to quicken it up?

Running windows I assume? If so i'd get hold of a copy of windows, format the machine and start from scratch, usually sorts out speed issues.

Ye got Vista as i didnt see the point in upgrading. Is it worth just transferring everything i want to keep onto disc or pen drive and then wiping the lot?

Remove Vista and if your specs are up to it put on 7, if not chuck on XP. Vista is a shitty operating system that was epic fail for M$

Ye ive done defrag and everything. Its running a lot faster now. I deleted most of my programs and re-installed them and it seems to have helped.
