Had this discussion in work just now. One of the guys said he would, one of them said he HAD !
Now i know this might sound snobish on my behalf but i would never take food out of a bin, even if its tinned food, in a sealed package or whatever.. ITS IN A BIN !!
so now hes got all huffy with me cos i called him a pikey bin diver.
question is though, would you ?

Depends how desperate I was; if it was the end of the world and the only food around was in bins, I'd consider it - day to day, no I wouldn't!

I wouldn't take anything out of a bin that someone else had put there.
If I'd made a mistaken in chucking something and it hadn't touched anything rank I might consider it

+1, I would get it out if it was sealed and not covered in bin goo after dropping it or something and retrieving immediately.

what about Freegans? Taking things thrown away by supermarkets because they've reached their sell by dates?
We're having this discussion in the office now!

most of the big supermarkets out of date stuff that doesnt get reduced gets sent to various recycling places.
the place i work at sends there waste food to pig farms.

I;d be suprised fi they did! you can;t feed pigs on anything these days; literally not even scraps of veg from your own table - We keep 20+ Duroc pigs and at first were giving them literally all our waste food except meat but got in trouble for it with DEFRA

My local saisburys bakery puts all there unsold cakes and things out at the end of the day, free. Used to take loads when I worked there.

lol what do you think i just made that up :/
i work there and know for a fact they go to feed pigs, all the waste gets put into different sections then put in the chiller and picked up for processing

A bin is probably the least of your worries eating the stuff they sell us in supermarkets nowadays.
