IMHO, great block! Basically X20XE with a girdled bottom end.. Lots of tuning companies in the states that get these running BIG power.

Stuff like the head and manifolds aren't as good out the box if power is what you're after. But seeing as you can work the head and change the other stuff, this isn't a problem.

As far as I know, there is no such engine as an X20XE - only X20XEV (as fitted to Astra F/Cavalier/Calibra etc.) or the rare X20XER as used in Opel OPC cars.

You'd be better off starting with a turbocharged engine if you were interested in going down that route, unless you're thinking of going for a big power build with uprated engine internals because you'll be junking just about everything apart from the block, crank and head anyway.

Correction

Possible = yes
Sensible = yes

Yanks are making over 800bhp out of these engines, so well worth it.

But i'd rather keep it NA, and go BTCC style spec with a 2.2 top end sleaved down to a 2.0.

I wonder, now the BTCC is over (talking of which, wheres it gone from ITV4?????, not seen it for ages now), if Vauxhall will let anyone know the spec of their engines? Imagine it with a higher rev limiter, no airbox restriction, running the 2.2 top end without de-sleave.

300bhp+?

What models out of interest? My brother used to have a 1995 Cavalier 2.0 16v and that had the X20XEV engine in it.
