Just get a normal size spare to use as a temporary measure as anyone else would.

Where would you keep an 18inch steely?sat loose in the boot all the time? just use a normal sized one, it's only temporary anyway.

Just stick a 14/15" steelie in the boot with a good tyre on it. It's only an emergancy "get you home" method.
I had a 15" spare in the boot of the Ibiza when I had 17" alloys on them, it was fine.
Plus you'll never get an 18" wheel in the wheel well in an Ashtray.

a smaller steel wheel with a large profile tyre will be the same as an 18 with low profile

Thats stops lazy bastards fixing what was wrong in the first place.
Oh and they usually run about with a bald tyre in the boot.
A get you home steely with larger profile tyre would be the one,

Doesn't even have to be the same radius if its a temporary measure.

i guess not no, just depends on how temporary it needs to be, ie if you get a flat 150 miles from home on a sunday afternoon.
Personally would prefere the same radius to save any extra wear etc

thats why you would fit the smaller wheel on the back swop the rear wheel to the front

Indeed, and that isn't defined in the legislation so it would be a matter for court.
It is illegal to exceed 50mph on mis-matched tyres across one axle but other than that, up to you to argue.
Or perhaps if you get pulled, just make sure you say half an hour ago when asked when you put it on.

it must be the same overall size including the tyre so just use what ever size wheel fits over the brakes then work out what size tyre you need.

The standard 205/50/16 is a similar size to a 215/35/18, thats what I used on my astra.
