Me and the missus are getting married next year. My family has all fell out with each other and im still considering whether to invite any of them

First decision though, who is going to be my best man. Most people have an old friend from school / uni / work right? Well Ive been at my job for about 9 months now so thats out the window and there is hardly any blokes there anyway. School I dont think anyone has actually matured since year 11 of the people I knew, not that I keep in contact with them for said reason. Uni - everyone I knew has turned out to be an absolute bellend

As I dont really drink I dont have any 'pub friends' if you like...in fact the only bloke I properly get on with and make sure I see whenever I can is the bride's step dad. I never get to see my step-dad because he is always in bed whenever we make the trip home (he works nights), is it a bit strange these days to have your father in law as your best man? He meets 'criteria' perfectly and is a great bloke - im just concerned how my side of the family would see it and would it catalyse an already inevitable argument

Any thoughts???

My ex wanted my Dad to give her away so I don't see why you couldn't have your father in Law be your best man - plus it'll cut down on speach time as the Father of the Bride and Best Man speach would be combined more time for drinking

Have whoever YOU want as your best man mate, if he fits the criteria and is obviously going to be in your life as long as your new missus will be, he will probably feel very honored that you chose him

plus you'd only have to buy one gift instead of two as would otherwise be customary

Thinking about it though - is the Bride's real father coming? Who will be giving her away or would she like her step father to give her away?

TBH, it doesn't sound the best start to a Marrage... you sure you're doing the right thing?
or just doing it to get your own back on 'family'?

would be interested to know why you've all fell out.

I haven't fallen out with family, they have fell out with themselves. It's difficult to go onto detail about, but as usual its about money.

It does sound very much like you dont get on with anyone... Maybe you should work out why you have no friends/your familly dont speak and go from there

Davey, I have friends, just not really old ones who know me well enough to do a best man speech! I also know why the family are at wits end with each other but its nothing I can/want to sort out for them, and even though we have asked several times to remain out of it we get dragged in and asked to take sides, which don't want to do

Go out and find a new friend to be your best man, you could make a film about it with hilarious consequences.

One of my best mates chose a guy he worked in a pub with for 6 months ago over the rest of the group of mates.

I think he was thinking in terms of speech stories tbh because he would have got slaughtered off of us

I'll be your best man Aslong as it's an open bar after

Seriously though id same the same as whats already been mentioned about picking who you want. It doesnt matter if its "wierd" or not "normal".

Its like if i was ever to get married and my sister couldnt be chiefs bridesmade id have her as my best man. It sounds stupid but im really close to my sister and id want her to be a big part of it.

Edit: my sister is not a man
