You should research into MONSTER cables, they're ridiculously overpriced to begin with...

I can't say I've ever experienced data loss because the cable was too cheap.

And the gold plating is to reduce corrosion while still maintaining a low resistance connection. Although zinc does a comparable job and for everything except the most extreme distances, it has very little affect on the ability of the wire to transmit data anyway.
