So the civic is overdue a service, it's a 2003 type r and just turned 36k
The service book is stamped up by main dealers but it's only ever had low mileage services (oil & filter)
By rights last service it should have had valve clearances done on time but not mileage
So what should I do? Hit it for all filters and gearbox oil plus valve clearances?
Also would you main dealer it to maintain the full History or go to an indepent specialist?

imho as it is a low miles get it main dealered.

independent.
dealer servicing means nothing nowadays. usually the independent garages do a much better job as they value your custom more.

To me, this bit all depends on how long you plan to keep it for - if you want to sell again within a year, then I'd go dealer to keep the FHSH, but if you want to keep it for a few years, then indy will do the job. Hell, you could even do it yourself!
It's all about the balance between how much the servicing costs, and how much you'll lose on the sale for the type of servicing you've had IMO.

Just get it done independant. Keeping a Dealer service history won't get you much more (if any) when it comes to selling, so why pay an extra £100+ on a service! Or do it yourself and get the book stamped

tbh i don't see why people bum cars with dealer service history.
it's usually apprentices doing the work, getting their grubby hands on your pride and joy.

Agreed. The only downside being no dealer stamp. People value that more for some reason.

Think with me i'd be buying all the genuine parts myself and then take it to a back street garage i trust. I've never really kept cars long enough to worry about servicing. Last Pug i had was hammered and serviced by my mate. Had an oil change done at Pug but that's it.

I can get genuine parts at trade price then get one of the workshop lads to fit them for beer so I could go that route
It's the stamp that's the problem, I spoke to the local specialist (abp) and they seem to want something daft for it

I wouldnt bother.
Get you boys to do it. Its not a technical supercar. They are qualified to do it, so let them do it. I no it wont say 'honda' in the book, but still been done by a proper garage so its fine

kurt, i took my car to Lookers Honda in southport for the cambelt to be done. after that experience i won't be using them again, i even gave them the benefit of the doubt when i was buying transmission fluid and they even fucked up putting 3.5 litres of fluid into a bottle for me.
i now take it to a local independant garage that my dad has been using for 20 years that a good mate of mine worked at up until recently. much better service, no n00bs dealing with my car and cheaper. i'm not sure why i bothered with the main dealer now in hindsight

If its a k20 then they really did as they're chain driven

its a B18c6 kurt, its in my DC2 they damaged the rocker gasket when they took it off and just whacked it back on leaking oil they ended up replacing it after i moaned, i wouldn't have minded paying for it, it would have been a phone call at the time but they couldn't even be arsed doing that
