I last replaced by HDD in my PC in April 2008 - the computer hasn't been used massively for intense applications, only Uni work and surfing the net, watching online videos etc.
But it's completely goosed already - it's really loud, I can feel the floor vibrating, takes ages to start up and generally do anything. I thought it was Kaspersky raping the machine on start up but I've disabled auto-update and it's still the same.
Is it about right the HDD should go or is this not right? Is it something else causing these issues? The whole machine is was new in 2005 and the only thing changed is the PSU and HDD.
I bought this HDD (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124228) which does have a 3 year warranty but I can't see how you can prove it's goosed or not.
 
EDIT: I should add it has got to the point where it won't play a video on MPORA properly which has buffered to 100%, it's jumpy all the time and the HDD is making crazy noises.

Are you sure its not just a cooling fan making the noise/vibrations?
The fact it takes ages to start up could be anything tbh.

Definitely feels like the HDD. I just took the side of the case of and put my hand on the top, can feel the vibrations a lot.
Red "activity" light also flashing continuously on the front.

Vibrations mean nothing, as said, rule out the cooling fans first.
Activity light also doesn't mean jack about faulty drives, your OS could just be bunged up with crap its collected since you've had the machine.

Stopped the majority of fans, nothing.
I will try a full system scan by Kaspersky as this hasn't been done for an age - guess I could also try a fresh install before a new HDD, although that would mean a fresh install twice

It should do Deano, the light will come on when its accessing the drive, therefore spinning up, therefore it will vibrate / make noise.
Best thing is to use the program posted above

Well duh, its obviously doing something but I'm not actually using the PC at the time.
Anyways, I've been using the same hdd for 6 years now, never had any problems with it.
