Then i would say your one of a few pal, Most people looking to give an unwanted/abused dog a new home usually go to an Animal shelter, If i were inclined to do that i don't think i could pay the abuser to to take his dog off him  also the money would be better off going to the shelter as a donation.
Either way the guy is an idiot for taking the course of action that he did!

i do wonder about all these animal loves on this site, all these people who are against animal cruelty but yet happily eat KFC and chicken/hens that are battery hens , really if you gave 2 shits you would probably not even eat meat at all if youc ared about animal welfare

There are many people that would throw it in a river, cut it up or whatever else instead of what he did and I'm not justifying what he did do, but at least he didn't cause it harm like some others would

cows/pigs/chickens etc are seen as food for humans so it's accepted they need to die for us to live.
killing or hurting animals who show you so much love is just horrid.
can't say i've ever felt loved by any cow i've seen, yet my dog is part of the family.

Got to agree with BarndooR, it's like double standards. As said, this guy didn't do anything really negative to the dog but these people who would burn his eyes out etc have no problem with people ending animals' lives for food.
I realise there's a difference between animal cruelty and killing animals 'humanely' but there's also a difference between being a bit upset about something like this and saying something like you'll rip they guy's head off and shit down his neck.
