Just got into an argument with my dad about chassis numbers on the dash. On corsa b's it's the plate on the passenger side. Is this required by law to be there? as i was saying other cars don't have it and i swear i've seen some corsas without the plates. So can anyone shed any light?

Doesn't need to be there, just done like that so you can more easily check it. Only legal requirement is that is marked in a durable fashion in to the vehicle frame.

That's eight, on a b you lift up the piss flap nearest the door

My old 5 door had a welding seam through it

Yeah, that's what i tried telling my dad, that there's numerous other chassis numbers dotted around the place so the one on the dash really isn't needed, but he wasn't having any of it . It's strange how some b's have them and others don't though.

I'm pretty sure its attached to the dash it self, so if you remove it will there not be a couple of holes?

Yeahhh, call me crazy

Yeah, it's got 3 push pins through it. The holes won't be a problem .

Seems vauxhall's chassis numbering was a bit hit and miss then.

i think it's only there so it's easier to check.

when i had my fiesta, because i bought it brand new, the dealer messed up registering the colour (it was white but came up as blue on the logbook) and i got pulled over by police who checked the chassis number in the windscreen to make sure it wasn't dodgy.
