Since my operation as you are all aware I lost 4 stone in weight, now I've put back on a stone of that already which is good.
But I want to start running and back on some light weights again, the issue with running though am I going to burn off more than I can put in so will struggle to put any decent weight on?

Simple way around that...eat more. If you find eating a chore and can't be arsed with prepping food every 3 hours add a couple of high calorie protein shakes into your diet

Don't you burn something silly like 60-100 calories per mile?
How far are you going to run?

Not far, more just to rebuild my core fitness and not for long. Just open my lungs back up, get me breathing properly again.

just do some HIIT training when running
sprint flat out for 5 mins
walk for 5 mins
sprint for 5 mins
walk for 5 mins
and so forth really good for getting your fitness back up
but yeah if your looking to put weight on and you find it hard cardio wont help
