Looking to get a car alarm after it got broken into last night. (Thought the factroy one would have worked, But it didn't even go off!) Been looking at Laserline and Clifford.
Laserline are the cheapest ones, Seen them going for about £150 fitted, But don't really want to get a cheap one. Cliffords are from £250 fitted been tempted by one of these.
But are there any other makes to go for that are good? Looking for one with a few extras like shock sensors, anti hijack, proximity sensor etc.
So what would you reccomend!

toad ai606 without fail if you're on a budget.
they aren't shit by any means even though they're pretty cheap.
i had it on my fiesta with proximity sensors and on full sensitivity it used to get set off by rain on minimum setting it beeped 3 times when someone walked next to the car, after 3 times the alarm went off.

Clifford are more hassle than there worth IMO.
Just make sure whatever you have is thatcham approved, Cheap ones that are (Depending on the model), looking at Cobra/Gemini. (I fit both at work so)
Not a fan of toad but plenty of people have them so not that bad!

Those Clifford ones where you can start it from the key is where it's at tbh
Surely that's not actually very good though Ben? What if you were in a busy car park
I know this may not apply to you, but a lot of the time my car is at the top of the drive which means right next to the path. If it beeped every time someone walked past it, it would never stop beeping

Hence why i dont like proximity sensors.
Remote start is ok on auto cars Only imo, i have seen/heard of people leaving manual cars in gear and trying to start them.

Had a look at toad, Can't seem to find an installer around here that does them. Don't really want to mess around with the electrics too much.
Looking to spend around £350 on one. Rather spend a bit on a decent alarm now after having someone go routing through my car!
Beleive it or not, My car was in my driveway right under the front window!
It wouldn't bother me about it going off all the time, At least i will know when someone is near it!

Fair point. Although I never leave it in gear so you can't go wrong

Yeah, I get where your coming from (The same angle most people who want them lol), Im just not a fan of starting a car from a distance away, not being able to make sure the oil light goes out etc and also if anybody else parks your car, facepalming could follow.

yeah that wouldn't be so good but in my old house it was on my driveway with a wall around the outside so if anyone set it off then they would be too near to the car e.g the stupid postman motherfucker
never went off in car parks, seemed fine. obviously it must have beeped if people parked next to me but it only detects movement rather than a stationary car next to it.

if you have something like that, then definitely get proximity sensors, put your mind at rest.

AW06 - Again a good point, although tbf I don't really check the lights when starting it anyway I'm the only one that parks it now as my dad used to move it out the way in the morning sometimes so we could get my mum's car out, but now that it's loud they take a different approach
Ben There's another point - postman walks down the drive to deliver post: 1st beep. Person walking dog goes past (which is entirely possible): 2nd beep. Postman goes back up drive: 3 beeps and you're out

that'd be ok as the sensors didn't seem to go off when someone was in front of the car, only down the side and rear.
it's funny watching people wondering what beeped when they walk past aswell

One other snag perhaps - my dad's shifts mean that one week he starts at 6am and the next finishes at 11pm, which would mean a beep at those times, which probably wouldn't go down well
I'm not after proximity sensors anyway tbh, the standard one seems to work (wind window down and sticking arm inside made it go off)

I bought my Toad Ai606 from an car audio site for £100 and took it to a local auto electrics place and they fitted full remote central locking with the Toad alarm for £160.
Been a good alarm so far worth every penny.
