Pretty sure there are vanos and non vanos.

the 3.0 one. looking about i think the 3.0 is single vanos

Yeah 3.0 is a single Vanos unit

3 litre is single, 3.2 is double. 3 litre is supposedly te stronger engine although it suffers from oil surge as the sump/oil pump is crap.

3 litres tend to make the quoted power too, whereas the 3.2s normally make less than they should.

the one i have here has a pissed idle and is down on power. plugs and coils are good
i can only think its vanos seals.

Pissed idle eh?
Could be the oil breather pipe is blocked or the valve is fucked/ blocked, could be a leak in the pipes under the inlet, could be the ICV is blocked up with shit, could be AFM too, try all that before the vanos seals.

cheers, its a dodgy conversion. im trying to eliminate the possibilitys but as i dont know whats supposed to be there to start with... im not sure

the sai has already been removed totally.

so just check out all inlet pipes.
the top breather has been play'd with and icv? ive seen where that is... hope it isnt that.

Yeah the idle control valve is an arse to get to.
