As above, has anyone done this? If so, what are the pro's and con's
Re-sale value?
Same spec as English equivalent?
etc, etc, etc
Any help would be much appreciated

It's no different to buying one in Wales or scotland
They are all UK cars, so should be exactly the same spec.

Would it not reduce the re-sale value if when I come to sell it, it is on a Northern Ireland format reg plate? (e.g. 3 letters and 4 numbers) rather than the standard format used in England, Wales and Scotland?

Its still a UK plate. Just a different format. Doesnt need to be imported or re regiestered etc. I dont think it would affect the resell value much :/
Unless you mean this sort of plate
Which is ROI and would need Re-Regiestering for a UK plate.

No the format of the plate is 3 letters and 4 numbers
I am concerned because the HPI searches, etc do not show any results because they do not recognise the format of the registration number

Mate got a P1 from N.I. a few years back, sold it on for the same price all the UK ones were fetching.

Why not ring HPI and check whether they can do a check for you?

Re-sale value wouldn't be any different at all.
Theres plenty of UK regs over here and the value is no different.
Likewise the specs are identical, its still UK in reality.

I have just found this info from the DVLA
- you need to re-register the vehicle here. it's classed as an import as NI has it's own licencing authority.
- you must do this as soon as you come into mainland (because you are a resident of mainland)
- you need form V55/5 (from DVLA local office or DVLA Swansea can post out), NI V5C, UK ins, UK/NI MOT cert, photocopy of tax disc and some ID (photo driving license is best - if not then check on direct.gov.uk)
- if you want to keep NI reg then include letter stating this and fill it out in Section 1 on V55/5 form
-Submit to your local DVLA office for them to register.
- If you changing to UK reg mark then you will get replacement tax disc/MOT and cert showing UK reg mark within 2-7 working days and new V5C within 4 weeks from DVLA Swansea
- If you keeping NI reg mark it will still take same amount of time but the MOT/tax will obviously not be changed.
Surely, it will show up as an import when I come to sell it then?

Do bear in mind that re-registration on to UK plates gives you more up-to-date tax obligations. There was a 1999 Discover V8 on Ebay a while ago, which should be taxed at the 1600cc rate because it's old but it was imported in 2004 and registered while they still made cars with that engine = Band K = more money.

Check out
http://www.unbeatablecar.com/
Nearly ALL of their cars are from ireland and have the three letter and four number plates.
Are cars in ireland not exempt mots aswell?
To be honest it shouldnt be that difficult to phone up DVLA and find out more. Maybe a google search might throw some info up
