Just rent out the full game Brett, then you can try the different game modes and all the vehicles etc.
The game comes into its own when you are playing with a group of mates and all work together, using different classes to help each other out and spawning on each other.

i find its not as frantic as COD, its not like die, respawn, run to the action, kill a few, die, respawn.

Unless you are on a shit team and they let the opposition run around your base spawn raping you Hence why its always best to play with people you know.

i like it when you have control of all bases in domination and they can only respawn and their base, if people are organised you can pin them down

It does take some getting used to, especially if you've been playing COD for years. They are 2 very different games, not one thing feels the same so it's very awkward until you get fully used to the way the weapons fire and aim, recoil is far more realistic for a start, I can also hit someone with a sniper half a mile away aslong as I gauge the bullet drop right. It's just a better experience of a war game, I was always a COD guy until I played this.
All their map packs are free aswell, atleast for PC they are.

Everything you said is what makes me want to play BF rather than COD, I've played COD since Modern Warfare, bored of it now!
Had a quick look, they seem to be free for the 360 too.

I've played COD since 2003 and the game that kept me playing the longest was the United Offensive expansion pack for the first call of duty, which in a way is similar to BF with huge maps with tanks/jeeps etc. Then there was hundreds of mods and new maps for the vehicles, base on UO is the best COD gametype ever. Fact. It's just a shame it's so dated now although for some reason I have a feeling the next COD will include huge maps and vehicles similar to BF, they need to do something drastically different as every COD has been the same for the past 5 years basically.
BF also has a new map pack due out with 4 new maps.
