I don't remember that being in the book. Probably some geewhiz driving latte drinking hemp smoking hippie studio exec that wanted that written in to make it appeal topical climate change would nit be that rapid.

10 years wasn't it? It would take even longer than that, I hope it was nuclear war but most of the buildings are intact and they are drinking and washing in the water which would be highly radioactive.

What was with the little beetle that is still alive and flying away near the end? The man at the start said everything was dead.
Also that little kid is so annoying crying all the time and letting his dad do everything.
