The 1.6 engines don't take abuse? My X16XE Had covered 78k when Mike picked the car up a couple of months back, and it never gave up properly on me once - yea, I had a couple of small sensor issues but it always ran, and in the 50k i had it, it put up with a hell of a lot of abuse! Didn't burn oil, never lost coolant, ran very sweetly! It was serviced well, with oil changes every 5k and a coolant change after about 40k, so it was looked after - and as a result, it was a good engine. Strange, huh?

Where have you read/experienced a dodgy 1.6? Do you not think it was a poorly looked after engine?

Dont take the abuse?

Mine ran for 4 months with NO WATER in it Broster ran a standard bottom end with a 9000rpm rev limit and it lasted about a year of hard times with 190bhp.

They're just as strong as the 1.4

Both just as strong, my old 1.6 had 110k on, running 135bhp, got panned to fuck all over. Was fine.

No water? So you drove the car with the temp needle pointing to the top along with no heating?

Wont make the temp go up to the top if the fan kicks in. My 1.4 had a leak before, that had no water in, but fan kicked in all time, never went over temp.
