Small firms are offering around 14-15k basic and 10-20% of the commission you write for them....Plus the 60k was not planning on being employed at that time. more likely to moving into the running of my fathers company or to look at setting up on my own - providing i have a decent enough client base etc.

You'll find a lot of the smaller IFA's getting squeezed and bought up in the next few years by the bigger firms - just too many of the smaller ones about at the moment and its only going to get harder for them.

There's consolodation going in loads of FS related industries, it's a bit of a shame imo but there's alot less people in certain areas who fancy picking up a family financial advisers or insurance brokers etc.

This is what annoys me, is that your job is highly skilled and difficult, yet you're on relatively shit pay.

CAD seems really difficult, yet the guy at work is on £16k, yet he's done 3 years at Uni and all sorts. Madness.
CAD is a piece of piss though. Anyone can be trained up to drive Solidworks or Pro E. The difference between someone who just drives the software turning other peoples ideas into digital data and the person who can draw something, turn it into digital data, use that data for simulation purposes and finite element testing, then actually turn that into something like a part, product or prototype.

As said, CAD is dead easy - I taught someone all the AutoCAD commands in about 3 hours.

Knowing what to draw in the first place is the tricky part (we design buildings )
