Just buy a wireless access point. And plug it in.
Or just get a wireless router and set it up with her details.
That's the best way tbh

Unless it's actually virgin adsl, although there are a couple, you in general can't just get a wireless router(modem) for cable, it would have to be a wireless access point.

Is it cable or ADSL?
If it's cable (probably) you need an access point.
If it's ADSL you could buy an all in one modem/router.

Surely you can just ring Virgin? They'll probably sort her out?

What Brett said. They might send her a new wireless broadband modem/router for free if she's been with them long enough.

OK, virgin media is most likely going to be DSL/Cable. Big thick cable coming out the wall, connection sort of look liek that of a TV aerial.
You need to purchase a wireless router/access point for DSL, not ADSL. Linksys wrt54G DSL/Cable route will be a good one (I have this).
Its plug and play. So the virgin media cabled comes from the wall, into the modem, from modem to wireless router via ethernet and bobs ur uncle.

And a pc world link;
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/cable-wireless-routers/727_7087_70094_xx_xx/xx-criteria.html?sSortInfo=topsellers-desc
These are all cable routers. If you are using a telephone modem (adsl) you will need a ADSL router

You what?
ADSL, Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, is a version of DSL. It has NOTHING to do with Cable (Docsis)!
Brett - You can tell if it's cable by whether or not there is a coax cable connecting it or a telephone cable. If it is cable and the cable modem isn't new (ie: one of VM's new Hubs or SuperHubs which an all-in-one wireless router and modem) then its sounds like an Ambit or Cisco if it's black. Either way, just get a router with a WAN port, usually listed as 'Cable Router' (look HERE).
If it is ADSL, so it connects to the phone socket, then you'll need an ADSL Router (look HERE).
As for Virgin handing out a free router, it's usually for new customers only and they charge otherwise. You might be able to blag it though if she's been a customer for any length of time.

It'll either be £50 for the netgear they used to supply or, mostly likely, they'll get you to stump up £75 for a new Super Hub. This is in the case that it is cable. I'm not sure about their ADSL side.
And if it is cable and she on a low package (i suspect it'll be 1/2/10/20Mb package from what Brett has said), then a £10 eBay'd Linksys WRT54 will do the job nicely - the WAN on the WRT54 maxes out at around 30Mb, but VM's 30/50/100 cable BB requires Docsis 3 and so you'd either have one of the Cisco's + Netgear router or the new SuperHub.
