"Taking the gender of the insured individual into account as a risk factor in insurance contracts constitutes discrimination," the ECJ said.

i dont see how its discrimination any more than taking age into consideration, its a proven fact that womens claims are cheaper than mens, the same way that an 18 year old is more of a risk than a 40 year old

i reckon woman cause most the accidents even if they aren't involved in them, i think their driving style and generally self-centred ignorance when they are in a car are what makes other people drive faster, overtake or feel angry.

agreed

and women definately have more accidents overall - mostly just bumps and shunts that they can evade by driving off or fluttering their eyelashes though so most go unreported

yes, go look at a womans car and see the dents, dings and scratches, they can't own a new car for 5 minutes before reversing into something or opening the doors into other cars.

Thinking about it, surely basing insurace on age is ageist? same as they are saying its sexist.

Most factors that come into Car Insurance could be seen as discrimination.

Should just do what the yanks do and insure the car not the driver. Far easier and simpler.

Exactly, not that i'm arguing at it being 10% cheaper

Next everyone will pay the same life insurance to stop it being ageist

Also, im sure there are a lot less female drivers on the roads. SO there are going to be less accidents involding females. Stands to reason.

I'd like to see some figures of the amount of male vs female drivers and the amount of male vs female accidents.

I bet the ratios are around teh same!
