Has anyone had any experience in getting plaster/paint samples off their wall tested for asbestos?
Who do you actually speak to, to get this done? How much does it cost?

Check with you local authority, they usual have a department who will come and investigate suspected asbestos, although there is usually a fee involved
|

I think it is subsidised compared to an independent asbestos inspector isnt it? Or free up to a point whereby you get charged etc.....like we said have a gander

Your council will more than likely come and inspect it for free...
They will want to remove it if it is asbestos, and then they only charge a small fee

Council will not touch asbestos they point you in the direction of an asbestos surveying company or removal company. I work for ARCA the Asbestos Trade Association - log onto www.arca.org.uk and find members in the area you live and give them a call if you require a piece testing log onto www.atac.org.uk and contact companies from ur area.

I will find you a name of a company that does it nationally off our database when I am in work tomorrow.
Have a survey done as in most cases as long as its not blue asbestos they will just as you to put labels in the areas affected for example if it was Chrisotile so that tradesmen will be aware an area is affected before they start drilling holes etc.
However if you need to dispose of it this is deffo a job for an aproved contractor.
Had a bit of a scare when a site i was doing a specification of works shows contamination from blue asbestos luckily the lab results from sampling showed it was in just one isolatied area.

A couple of mates are asbestos surveyors for a living for a national company called Interserve - they then work for various housing associations etc around the country.
Your're best off speaking to your local council / housing authority for advice I'd imagine and then get somebody round to come and survey it

I rang the council when we had 440kg of asbestos concrete sheeting,
they said theres three options..
1. get a company to remove it. will cost you.
2. we can come and remove it. this will cost you.
3. or you can remove it yourself (take cares, double bag it and tape it up, best if you move it about when wet and don't saw it up, wear a mask etc) and you can have a FREE desposal at a asbestos waste desposal site.
Nottm City council allow you ONE FREE drop, per house hold per life time.
You just had to hire a van and prove its not used for ' a asbestos removal business' show a receipt of hire for the day etc etc.
but had no problem getting it desposed of.

When they find Asbestos on the Underground (which is becoming more and more frequent now) it's like somebodys died, big white tents covering it etc!

Get it tested, chances are you can remove it yourself, just take sensible precautions.

find a member in your area, these companies are checked and have UKAS accreditation and also ISO to be able to test etc. Once a sample is taken they will explain the report to you, if asbestos is found they will explain what to do next...
