How did you manage to get into a mortgage with an 8% interest rate?

7.9%
It was one of the last lender's to offer a 95% mortgage, and right before the credit crunch... So for the privilege we have to pay higher... I look at it and see that it can only be cheaper!

JESUS! 7.9% and I thought mine was bad, I believe I bought around the same time as you, August 2008.
Mine is 6.23% we pay £694, £122,000, 35 years, 5% deposit.
We're no over paying so that it'll be paid off in 15 years.

I'd rather get mine paid as quickly as possible and quit wasting it in interest.
Well that depends on the amount of interest your paying

-25 year term
-£85000 house
-£15000 deposit
-£70000 mortgage
-£430 p/m
Fixed for 5 years just to be safe as we bought in the middle of all the uncertainty and we got a pretty decent rate so thought it was worth a bit extra.
