In task manager, nothing is using more than 4% of the CPU but when I look at performance its CPU is running constantly between 60-70%
When music is playing it jitters about every 2 seconds and the mouse stops and starts.
Any ideas? I havent installed anything recently and the virus scanners havent picked anything up.
Its a Dell Vostro 1700 running Vista, 3 years old (Never had this problem before)
Ben.

Check the fan filters for 3 years worth a dust slowing the air to aid cooling.
Fans will come on if the processor is working hard.
