This is actually a genuine email BTW:

-------------------

We have noticed that your account has not been used for a while now. Hopefully this will not continue to be the case, however, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, we will start to apply a monthly Inactive Account Fee to this account if it remains inactive. In order to prevent this charge, you can place a bet or play on one of our other products within 28 days of this email.

Full details of the Fee can be found here.

Any Fees will be deducted from your Sportsbook wallet – which may result in a negative balance in that wallet if your funds are in any of our other wallets (for example Casino or Poker).

We hope that we will see some activity on your account before the Fee is due to be removed – if so, the Fee will not be applied.

If you have any queries regarding this Fee, then please contact our Customer Service Team as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Ladbrokes.com

-------------------

I just emailed them and told them to close the account - I haven't used it in like 5 years FFS!

They're one of the last companies to do it, Betfair amongst others have been operating an inactive fee for ages.

Do they? Never heard of betfair doing it and i have plenty of dormant accounts with them

I'm pretty sure it is illegal to do what they are doing

Ladbrokes uses Orbis and it costs nothing to have accounts stored on the database

EDIT - Looking into it it seems the Lib Dems want to be given the money from inactive accounts to put into local sports communities.

Only take the charges after 12 months of inactivity but i can see no legality on how they can charge for an unfunded account

So it only charges you if there's money in there?
