My mate has a GT TDi in black with full GTi kit and the Edition 30 BBS wheels, he bought it from a trader that buys them standard, fits the bits then sells them for more. He paid £11k for a 56 plate with 70k miles about 12 months ago. It is a great car, pulls like a train and gets great mpg but its not 'in your face' enough for me, unless its white and i'm yet to see one in white, at least for 10K.

get can get a white vinyl wrap for under a grand. sorted !

the Interior is from an Audi A3
Front end is S3 and rear is Golf.

But it's all the mk4 platform.

Mk4 golf interior is shit too.

I'd much rather own a Mk5 R32/GTI than a Mk4 R32/GTI

the rear is golf? didnt know that...

if by platform you mean chassis, it isnt. its an audi a3 chassis. which is different from that of a mk4 golf.

i agree with your GTI/R32 statement. i was comparing the diesels only really.

My bro has a 2.0TDi in his Tiguan and it hasn't missed a beat! He's getting the new Passat with the same engine in at the end of the month!

I think you must of just been unlucky cos I have never heard/known anyone to have that many problems!

And regarding the chassis/platform

A4 (PQ34)
A4 platform cars (Typ numbers in brackets):

Audi A3 Mk1 (8L)
Audi TT Mk1 (8N)
VW Golf Mk4/VW R32 (1J)
VW Bora/Jetta IV (1J)
VW Lavida
VW New Beetle (1C/1Y/9C)
SEAT León Mk1 (1M)
SEAT Toledo Mk2 (1M)
Škoda Octavia Mk1 (1U)

Edit, between the 2wd cars, Im sure there are no differences to the suspension and drive train?

I'd prefer the mk5 diesel too. Although I do like the PD engines

like i said, it might be because of them being low mileage.

a diesel should be able to reach early 100k miles without it breaking, the mk4s did. the mk5 dont.

after googling it do i know what u mean...

lol

so the golf and the a3 have the same platform. which is where the leon got it from.

so i was right in saying its got an audi a3 platform, and u were right in saying its got a golf platform.

coz theyre both the same anyway !

no, you were wrong because you said they were different.

I was right because I said they all shared the same platform.

The Mk4 was possibly the worst golf made, maybe the mk3 was worse? But at least at the time it was "acceptable" to be like that.

The mk4 had a very good build quality granted. But it was heavy, slow and shit.

Windows!?

Just because you owned a couple that had problems doesnt mean on the whole the MK5 was a far superior car.

I think I have decided (for now!). I like the Mk2 A3, but S-line versions are out of my budget, so buy a normal SE or what ever, buy the S-line black and white leather interior, nice steering wheel, S3 front bumper, Sline rear, and some skirts, suitable wheels, dropped, mapped

reading "press" and actually experiencing it yourself are two different things.

i think EXPERIENCE is more valid.

Press is always biased. just watch BBC news for example.

its probably cheaper to buy a ready modified one as the parts for these are quite expensive and hard to find.

I wouldn't say parts are hard to find, as I've already had a look for said parts!

I don't like buying 'ready modified' as you don't know how good the work is, and ones that have been done to a good standard go for a lot of money! Plus its more fun doing it myself. Also if I know I will be changing wheels and bumpers, it doesn't matter if I find and example with kurbed wheels and scuffed bumpers, I could get them down on the price because of that
