right the chance has come up to take part in a group buy for some corrado bits, at the moment this is for the tailgate as they don't make one, they need a few of us to order to get some made, not really a saving on price..

this is the company and the mk2 tailgate they do

http://www.performance-trim.com/product.php?product_id=105

could be quite expensive to do the front wings, bonnet and tailgate, but as a bonus its lighter and will never rust?

are there any other downsides people can think of?

hard to find and decent front wings now and new ones are expensive enough from VW iirc

worth it?

* Price-wise, the 'fully carbon' option will be £670 inc. vat. (gloss carbon outer and inner frame). 'Standard carbon' will be £505. Fibreglass will be £280. These are the same prices as our bonnets.

it will look standard, i don't reckon those bits would put people off if i ever sold it, i don't really consider the time i come to sell when owning a car, its all mine

suspension and brakes aren't standard corrado stuff anyway

Suppose it depends what your intentions for the car are. Will you benefit much from the weight saving? Bit expensive for something just because it won't rust

I would be painting them as well in that situation.

The no rust point is an interesting one. My only concern would be that they fit the same. It's a pattern part, same as you would have concerns over a pattern steel part.

I had a performance trim bonnet on my corsa and it was about an inch too small drivers side and sat up a little bit too much where they had put the bolt holes slightly out of line. I dont no if all of their parts are like this though.

Wont feel the same either, original panels will have a reassuring and quality weight to them, cf ones will feel flimsy and cheap through being light.

Id get them though, if there not up to scratch just sell them on, cant see you loosing much money on them!

I agree, a mate of mine has got some very expensive jap carbon bonnet and it feels scarily flimsy when you open it (is a big bonnet though).

Bear in mind, A metal panel will dent and then be able to be knocked out, whereas a carbon panel will crack and have to be thrown away.

I wouldn't want carbon panels on a everyday car, also risk paint cracking as the panel bends.

I was planning to paint a carbon bonnet I bought, you should consider that carbon products can take more preparation to achieve a smooth paint finish as the weave texture shows through like rippling.

what about tinting the lacquer so it matches the paint but when you look closer you can see the weave like on F40's

pointless imo, you arent tracking it so you dont care about weight, and you will have to have it all sprayed anyway so you mightaswell just get your front end resprayed and that wont rust

i got all my carbon from performance trim and the fit was spot on , all the panels feel real solid , but i wouldent fit them to your car like others have said bit of a waist of money if its not on a track/race car
