got my coast to coast next month, on a boardman comp mountainbike (small)
Currently running on Continental Speed King 2.1" tyres but the lads I work with rate hybrid tyres very well for roads. Anyone suggest any? Dont want to spend mega money. Do they use the same inner tubes lol?
Also, I know its a bit late, but I have dcided to change the saddle, or put a gel cover on it - again, any ideas?
Bike also has:
ritchey bar ends
crudguards
iphone holder
computer
saddle bag with tools and pump underneath
800ml bottle and cage
energy bar bag on cross bar
cateye led lights
got a camelbak 3l blowfish with:
spare clothes
waterproofs
food etc
and...
usual bike clothes, gloves
helmet
sunglasses etc
anything else you think i'll need?
thanks

I was advised last night that a good padded pair of shorts will help instead of changing a saddle.

Sports direct had some decent muddy fox cycling shorts in the other week (Not the gay tight ones!) for about £15.
Need a new seat for mine and tyres, Seat is rock hard and the tyres are crap!

the tight ones, just wear them under other short if you are not happy with them. its the padding you are wanting really.

when you say computer I know you mean a speedo thing but I can't help picturing some a roller ball mouse glued onto the end of your handlbars with a james bond big red button fold out screen in a similar way to your corsa computer
Shorts is a better shout than new saddle in my opinion, gel covers always look a bit shit.
My girlfriend got me a phone charger thing for my bike, attaches to handlebars and the battery is charged via a fan which turns in the wind as you cycle. Haven't used it yet so don't know how good it is. It sounds like you have enough things strapped to your bike already but an option if you are using your iphone for navigation, journey recording etc and its going to get drained.

How far is the Coast to Coast?
I would say padded shorts are a better option than changing the saddle too. Also, decent shorts are worth their weight in gold. I bought some shitty £10 ones from Sports World for a ride in France last year and they were OK. I recently bought some Endura shorts and they are so much better. Also consider doubling up. Endura also do some padded boxers/undershorts that you wear under your normal lycra cycling shorts.
Also I would 100% put some Hybrid tyres on your bike. Will make life much easier if you are cycling on road!
Good luck with the ride.

Certainly look at hybrid Tyres, I wouldn't want to do any sort of long distance on a mountain bike.

Puncture repair patches but I guess they are I. Your tool kit?
Yes you can get hybrid tires that will take your innertubes.

185 over 3 days. Been training on my old sarascen bike with huge tyres, makes riding my boardman soo much easier, thats with the speedkings on too
Will buy some padded shorts at the weekend, doing 20 miles a day on normal shorts is fine for me, but 60 is a bit painful
Route we are doing is morcomb to bridlington, called way of the roses, quite a new route, looks to be fun though. All being well ill be doing it again next year
Thanks

185 in 3 days is a nice distance, its what I did in France last year. Is it for a charity or just something you are doing for youself?

My mate really rates Specialized Nimbus hybrid tyres and he nicked an innertube off me for one of them so presumably they take standard sized tubes.

Its always hard to choose a tyre that will do both as well as the other.
The specialized crossroads armidillo might be a good tyre for you, it comes in a 1.95 which should be better but still has some nice grip for the off road bits.
If the off road really isnt too bad then maybe the Specialized nimbus armadillo tyres, they come in a 1.50 so will be alot easier to roll on whilst on the road, but not as good off though!
